A man franticly approached the security guard in the mall. Out of breath he gasped, “Have you seen a bunch of Boy Scouts in here? I’m looking for them. I’m their leader.”
If Jesus returned today, would He find you as a faithful disciple following Him and all he commanded?
It seems to me that our religion is based on libertarian thought that picks and chooses what to believe, how to interpret scripture, and application is then based on what is acceptable to majority. It is possible to shop for a church that will tell you what you want to hear. In the event you cannot find the perfect church, you could even start your own.
Did Christ suffer and die in order that His church could chose which of His commands they felt comfortable in following? Many who call themselves Christian teachers or leaders rarely read the Bible. Many of them go to scripture only looking for what they want to prove and thereby miss the intent of the text altogether. Others refer to imagined biblical passages or self-help books to justify a personal belief system. Some even incorporate other religions into their faith.
Some hear the word and understanding it they refuse to follow.
“As for you, son of man, your people who talk together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, say to one another, each to his brother, ‘Come, and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.’ And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for with lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain. And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument, for they hear what you say, but they will not do it. When this comes – and come it will – then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
